A Biophysical Research on the Determination of Morphological and Structural Properties of Coumarin-Loaded Liposomes

The major goal of this research was to examine how coumarin affects lipid model membranes. For reason, liposome membranes were formed using dimyristoyl phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) as zwitterionic lipid. influence on the morphology, packing order, fluidity, and hydration state specifically investigated by means microscopic (field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM)) spectroscopic (attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy) techniques. Taken into account results obtained with FE-SEM images analysis, liposomes without have uniform structures spherical shapes in appearance. However, coumarin-loaded are observed an increase size when compared a mean diameter unloaded-liposomes. Considering ATR-FTIR investigation vibrational bands which belong hydrophobic hydrophilic parts DMPC reveals that alters physical features decreasing order increasing fluidity system making hydrogen bonding interfacial headgroup regions DMPC. Finally, performing more biophysical studies interactions biologically active compounds plays important role determining molecular action mechanisms these drug discovery formulations.
